Americans turning pessimistic on country’s direction under Biden, poll reveals

President Joe Biden just received more bad news.

According to the New York Post, a new poll reveals that with the Biden administration at the helm, Americans’ optimism about the direction of the country is sinking.

Bad numbers for Biden

The poll was conducted by Ipsos on behalf of ABC NewsThe poll found that, since May, Americans have become significantly less optimistic about the direction in which the country is heading with Biden in the White House.

ABC News reported, “In the early May survey, Americans were more optimistic than pessimistic by a 28-percentage point margin.” However, now the outlet says that optimism is “underwater by 10 points.”

The pollster found that 55% of Americans are pessimistic about the direction of the country, which is a staggering 19% point increase since the same question was asked in May.

The survey also revealed that only 45% of Americans are optimistic about where the country will be within one year, which marks a 19% drop since May.

It’s not only Republicans

Notably, it’s not just Republican voters who feel less-than-hopeful about the fate of this great nation. The pollster found that the dropoff in optimism has taken place across party lines.

“Optimism is down about 20 points among Democrats and Republicans and down 26 points among independents,” ABC News reported. “Among Democrats, about 7 in 10 (71%) now say they are optimistic about the direction of the country over the next 12 months.”

Even more bad news

The latest poll from Ipsos is the third less-than-desirable poll that President Biden and his administration have experienced over the past week.

One of those polls, conducted by Gallup, showed Biden, currently, at the lowest approval rating of his presidency, at 50%. That marks a six-point decline from June and a seven-point lowering from Biden’s best approval rating of 57%.

Another poll, conducted by Rasmussen, found that at the current time, Biden is less popular than former President Donald Trump. The poll, which asked participants whether they have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of the person in question, had Trump edging Biden out by one percentage point, 52% to 51%.

We’ll have to see if the Biden administration’s downward trend continues in August, but unless something changes for Biden and the Democrats, sooner than later, the 2022 midterms are going to be even easier for Republicans to sweep.
