Motorcycle accident sends former GOP Congressman Allen West to hospital

During the 2016 presidential election, former Florida GOP Congressman Allen West was one of the loudest voices supporting now-President Donald Trump.

Unfortunately, West was injured in a motorcycle accident and was rushed to a hospital Saturday evening, The Hill reported.

Dedicated conservative voice

West, who is a retired lieutenant colonel in the Army, has remained a strong conservative voice during a time when doing so as an African American is far from easy.

Over the course of his political career, West has been called everything from a race traitor to an “Uncle Tom,” but not without deftly putting his critics back in their place every time.

In 2016, West regularly served as the public face of minority conservatives in this country, countering the pervasive misconception that such communities would never rally behind then-candidate Trump, or any other Republican, for that matter.

While he is no longer serving as a congressman, West remains very politically active, even recently throwing his hat into the ring for the chairmanship of the Texas Republican Party.

Injured, but on the mend

Saturday’s accident, which took place just outside of Waco, was apparently caused by the actions of another motorist.

West had reportedly ridden his motorcycle to the “Free Texas Rally” at the capitol in Austin in support of a full reopening of the state and the lifting of coronavirus-related restrictions.

The Associated Press indicated that while West was on his motorcycle, the driver of a car cut in front of him and another rider, at which point the other motorcycle attempted to brake, causing West to then collide with it.

According to the Houston Chronicle, West suffered a concussion, several broken bones, and multiple lacerations, with the former lawmaker stating that he is “alive by the grace of God.”

The good news is that West now appears to be on the mend, with an update posted to his Twitter account stating that he is in stable condition and is expected to be released from the hospital on Monday.

We wish you a speedy recovery and a rapid return to full strength, Mr. West.
