Documents recently released to the public show an alleged effort to monitor former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch.
Now, the individual allegedly tasked with that duty, retired Marine Robert Hyde, has been spotted in photographs at the White House, the Washington Examiner reports.
Yovanovitch had her 15 minutes of fame during the House impeachment hearings. Although she was lauded by House members at the time, including Republicans, she is alleged to have worked to undermine Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Rudy Giuliani has made no bones about the fact that Yovanovitch was an obstacle in the way of investigating corruption by former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.
Giuliani has further stated that he wanted Yovanovitch removed from her position, and it’s been alleged that he may have employed Hyde to “stalk” her in order to make that happen.
The newly released documents also show a conversation between Hyde and Giuliani associate Lev Parnas regarding Yovanovitch: “She’s talked to three people. Her phone is off. Computer is off.”
At the White House
The problem here is not so much that Hyde was working for Giuliani, but the troubling nature of some photos that went viral on Wednesday night after this report was made public.
In one photo, Hyde poses with a group of individuals who were using the White House bowling alley for an event. It is unknown whether Trump was present at that particular event, but there is no evidence suggesting he was.
Hyde also has several other pictures on his Instagram account with Rudy Giuliani, as well as a picture with Trump that looks like it was taken at Mar-a-Lago, a club where Hyde is reportedly a member.
Democrats are attempting to implicate Trump in any misdeeds by Hyde, but as of yet, there is no evidence that Trump himself was involved in the “scandal” at all.
Meanwhile, Mr. Hyde, who is running for the congressional seat currently held by Democrat Jahana Hayes (CT), is not without his own legal issues. According to the Examiner, Hyde was arrested at Trump National Doral complaining “that he was paranoid that someone was out to get him.”
Only time will tell, but the presence of disreputable characters like Hyde appears to be a negative result of Rudy Guiliani’s presence in Trump’s inner circle. Guiliani has one job, to protect the president. If his actions and associates are endangering Trump, he needs to go — and soon.
