Alec Baldwin pins the blame for the ‘Rust’ shooting on two others

Actor Alec Baldwin continues to blame anything and anyone other than himself for the shooting that took place on the Rust movie set that resulted in the death of Halyna Hutchins.

Now, the Daily Wire reports that Baldwin is blaming the shooting on two of his colleagues: Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the movie’s armorer and props assistant, and Dave Halls, the movie’s assistant director.

Baldwin played the blame game during a recent interview that he did with CNN.

At one point during the interview, Baldwin said:

There are two people who didn’t do what they were supposed to do. I’m not sitting there saying I want them to, you know, go to prison, or I want their lives to be hell. I don’t want that, but I want everybody to know that those are the two people that are responsible for what happened.

Baldwin’s attempt to shift the blame

Baldwin, elsewhere in the interview, made it clear that the two people he was referring to were Gutierrez Reed and Halls.

At one point, referring to Gutierrez Reed, Baldwin said:

Someone put a live bullet in the gun who should have known better. That was her job. Her job was to look at the ammunition and put in the dummy round or the blank round, and there weren’t supposed to be any live rounds on the set.

At another point in the interview, Baldwin asked, “Why didn’t she check that bullet? Why didn’t Halls obey her? Why did he give me the gun? Why didn’t he check? Why did he tell the crew [it was a cold gun]?”

Halls and Gutierrez Reed respond

Following Baldwin’s claims, both Halls and Gutierrez Reed decided to release statements through their attornies.

“We disagree with Mr. Baldwin’s attempts to deflect blame onto others,” Gutierrez Reed’s attorney said. “It is not for him to decide or to apportion blame.”

Similarly, Halls’s attorney said:

Baldwin is pointing the finger at others because the evidence is pointing at him. Halls is not responsible. Everyone needs to stop. People are only pointing the finger at Halls because they don’t want the responsibility of being wrong. Halls is a scapegoat. People need to look at the evidence

Baldwin claims he didn’t pull the trigger

Besides blaming others, Baldwin also insisted that he did not pull the trigger even though the FBI investigation found that the gun could not have fired without the trigger having been pulled. Baldwin claimed that he only pulled the hammer back.

Baldwin, during the interview, certainly came off as a guy who is desperately trying to avoid taking responsibility for his involvement in what happened.
