As Americans continue to watch the impeachment hearings that are bringing up more questions than answers, public support for the impeachment inquiry is beginning to wane.
Much to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s chagrin, in addition to at least two Democrats members of the House, lifelong Democrat and famous legal scholar Alan Dershowitz has stated that he does not believe Trump should be impeached, the Washington Examiner reports.
Not buying it
Last week, Rep. Jeff Van Drew (D-NJ) went on the record to say the impeachment hearings have yet to show him anything that would bring him to vote “yes” for impeachment. Rep. Collin Peterson (D-MN) also said words to the effect that he had not been swayed.
Another report was published in the Washington Examiner showing at least two more House Democrats who did not want to be identified, but expressed concern about impeachment at this point.
This is an absolute disaster for Democrats, especially rabid impeachment hawks Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff (D-CA), who counted on the unconditional support of House Democrats to push impeachment through and destroy Donald Trump regardless of the consequences.
It has become very apparent that the only real reason Democrats want Trump out of office is that they don’t like him. They don’t like the way he acts, they don’t like his foreign policy, and they don’t like the fact he was an outsider that took out the shoo-in Democrat star Hillary Clinton. Trump disrupted Democrats’ plans, and they want revenge.
Alan Dershowitz, a regular contributor on Fox News, is a lifelong Democrat, and will more than likely vote for Joe Biden in the primary. Point being, Dershowitz is a veteran liberal. However, even though he may not like Trump, he’s come out against impeachment because of the long-term implications.
“They have created open-ended criteria which bear no relationship to the word of the Constitution itself,” Dershowitz said. “If President Trump is impeached, it will set a terrible precedent, which will weaponize impeachment, and the next Democrat who gets elected will be impeached.”
Dershowitz went on to remark that the Democrat impeachment strategy mirrors infamous KGB enforcer Lavrentiy Beria’s mantra: “Show me the man and I’ll find you the crime.”
“That’s what some of the Democrats are doing,” the Fox contributor said. “They have Trump in their sights. They want to figure out a way of impeaching him and they’re searching for a crime.”
Dershowitz also warned his own party: “Alexander Hamilton said in Federalist Paper Number 65: The greatest danger would be if impeachment turned on the number of people each party had.” He said that impeachment based on the facts currently known is “complete abuse” of the founders’ purpose for impeachment.
Still, Democrats are barreling ahead on impeachment without a thought to the long-term consequences. But as Dershowitz pointed out, it’s going to come back and bite them one way or another.
