The state of Alabama is in mourning this week.
Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall’s wife, Bridgette, passed away over the weekend.
Bridgette Gentry Marshall had been in a struggle with mental health issues.
Marshall’s office issued a formal statement reading: “We are saddened to report that Bridgette Marshall, wife of Attorney General Steve Marshall, passed away this morning after a long struggle with mental illness.”
Thus far, there has been no further information about the cause of her death.
Family members have asked for privacy during this time, and understandably so.
By all reports, Bridgette was a loving wife and dedicated mother.
She was also very active in the local community.
Her Facebook profile stated that she did volunteer work for Marshall County Christmas Coalition Hospice.
While deeply involved in the middle of a political race, Marshall’s opponent put the brakes on his campaign for the time being.
Troy King, the other candidate for attorney general, called “it “a sad and difficult day. Today we are not in different political campaigns or camps. We are husband and wives, fathers and mothers.”
He continued, “We cannot imagine the deep sense of loss and grief the Marshall family must face.”
King also announced the suspension of all campaign advertising while Marshall grieves the loss of his wife.
We join everyone in extending our condolences to the Marshall family.
RIP Mrs. Marshall.
