Michigan AG planning to charge former Gov. Rick Snyder for role in Flint water scandal

The state of Michigan is expected to bring charges against former Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) for his role in the Flint water scandal, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel plans to bring charges against Snyder soon, and defense lawyers have already been informed. While the charges have not yet been revealed, they will likely revolve around decisions Snyder made that led to several residents of the city dying from lead contamination.

Snyder endorsed Democratic nominee Joe Biden for president and called President Donald Trump “a bully who lacks a moral compass.”

Rough fight ahead for Snyder

Snyder has been less than honest about the Flint water scandal for years, and he has, on more than one occasion, buddied up with Democrats to protect himself.

In 2016, President Barack Obama visited Flint and drank a glass of water while vouching for Snyder. Of course, the water was not safe, and the whole event was a PR stunt meant to support Snyder and discredit residents’ claims.

Snyder is a “Republican In Name Only” and, for too long, has gotten away with morally dubious decisions. His endorsement of Biden while calling Trump a bully without morals is a prime example of the left and their allies’ gaslighting.

Snyder’s stunt with Obama attracted a lot of criticism. Michigan native and radical leftist Michael Moore said, “To drink from a glass of Flint water when a number of experts are still saying this water’s not safe? It’s still going through the same corroded lead pipes? It was such a disappointing thing to see.”

Important message

Political figures at any level of government seem to forget that their job is to serve the people, not the other way around. Snyder must be held accountable if he indeed hid knowledge from the people of Michigan.

If governors know that they can hide politically inconvenient matters from the public at the cost of public health, they will keep us in the dark every time.

To add to the irony, Snyder issued a joint statement with current Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) where he said, “We must unify as one nation to defeat our real enemy, which is the pandemic that has taken far too many of our friends, neighbors, and loved ones. As Americans, there is no problem we can’t solve, and no challenge we can’t meet. Let’s all stay safe. Let’s take care of each other. And let’s move forward together, as one United States of America.”

Being a “centrist” with no values will make you enemies on both sides, and if Snyder finds himself in prison, he will have few friends to mourn his incarceration.

The case against Snyder is damning as there is strong evidence suggesting that Snyder and other figures in the government knew about the true danger in Flint but kept the public in the dark. If those allegations prove correct, Snyder needs to be held accountable.
