Fans of HBO’s hit series Carnivale are in mourning this week.
Brian Turk, who played strongman Gabriel, passed away on Friday due to complications from cancer. He was 49.
Gone Too Soon
Turk was obviously a fairly young man, which is what makes the circumstances of his death even more disturbing.
It was only a year ago that Turk was first diagnosed with cancer, but it quickly progressed to terminal status.
As far as we have come on so many fronts, this disease continues to take lives, leaving a path of devastation in its wake.
Turk’s first credit on his IMBD profile is from 1993 when he played a bit role on television series Step by Step. This was typical of the roles he would play early in his career.
Before his first movie role, Turk made single-episode appearances in three more TV series, but he was beginning to get noticed and was given more significant roles. Finally, in 1995, he landed a role in the independent movie Panther.
For most of the next decade, Turk would make single-episode appearances in some of the hottest shows on TV, including ER, The Pretender, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
During that time, he also played in some hit movies, including, A Civil Action, American Pie 2, and A.I. Artificial Intelligence.
Finally, in 2003, Turk got his big break on Carnivale. The HBO series ran from 2003 to 2005 (two seasons) and was based on a traveling carnival that had one unknowing member with mysterious powers.
Turk resumed appearing in hit TV shows post-Carnivale, most notably on Two and a Half Men, Animal Kingdom, Criminal Minds, and three appearances on General Hospital. His last known credit was in 2017 when he appeared in NCIS: Los Angeles.
Rest in peace, Brian. You were taken from us far too soon.
