Trump says Ukraine needs a new president after Zelensky hits diesel deal with Russia

 October 11, 2026

President Trump said Ukraine should replace Volodymyr Zelensky with a leader who can make a deal after the Ukrainian president criticized a U.S.-Russia diesel agreement aimed at cutting American fuel prices.

Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Saturday, Trump answered Zelensky’s attack on the arrangement by stating it is time for new leadership in Kyiv. He said Zelensky “wants to make problems for the world” by authorizing strikes on Russian refineries and warned, “He’d better d*** well stop.”

Trump confirmed the sanctions suspension on Friday. The deal pauses limits on Russian diesel exports until April 7 and stages fuel into the American and global market, starting with 300,000 tonnes.
