A new 2024 poll shows that President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are tied in the important swing state of Michigan.

The poll comes from EPIC-MRA. The pollster surveyed 600 people between June 8 and June 14, and it released the results on Friday.

Before getting to the results, it is worth noting that Biden officially won Michigan, in the 2020 presidential election, by a margin of 50.6% to 47.8%, or a margin of about 150,000 votes. It was one of the most highly-contested states of the election.

It is also worth noting that four years earlier, in the 2016 presidential election, Trump – who at the time was facing off against Hillary Clinton – won the state of Michigan by a margin of only 10,704. This made Trump the first Republican presidential candidate to win Michigan since 1988.

Could Trump do it again?

It appears that the answer could very well be yes. The EPIC-MRA asked participants who, out of Trump and Biden, they would vote for should the 2024 presidential election be held today.

The final tally was 44% Biden to 44% Trump with 12% undecided.

The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus four percentage points. So, in theory, either Trump or Biden could have a slight lead. But, the main point is that Biden is not running away with Michigan ahead of the 2024 general election – far from it.

EPIC-MRA also found that, in Michigan, Biden only has a favorability rating of 39%, with 52% of poll participants having an unfavorable opinion of Biden. And, on the job approval front, EPIC-MRA found that a whopping 69% of poll participants indicated that they have a negative view of the job that Biden is doing as president. Only 29% said that they have a positive view of Biden’s performance.

Suffice it to say that things are not looking so hot for Biden in Michigan.

An overview of the current polls

RealClearPolitics indicates that Trump and Biden continue to dominate their respective primary fields.

Trump, on average, is up 32.7 percentage points on his next closest rival – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis R) – in the 2024 Republican presidential primary. And, Biden is up, on average, 46.4 percentage points on Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 Democratic presidential primary.

These big leads would suggest that it is very likely that Trump and Biden are going to face off, once again, in 2024.

RealClearPolitcs currently has Trump winning this matchup, on average, by 1.8 percentage points, 45% to 43.2%.

But, of course, a lot can change between now and the party primaries, not to mention the general election.
